There are numerous companies today that are exploring the world of social media. In fact, I can’t think of one company out there that isn’t using the efficient tool of social posts to promote and advertise their company’s content. There is however, one company that I do follow that is known to be very prestigious but their social content sometimes lacks viewer engagements.
Panasonic. Formerly known as Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. It is a Japanese multinational electronics corporation. When you think Panasonic, naturally you probably think of their brand’s “cameras” and that’s it… but in actuality, there is a lot more to the company and their social media accounts fail to call attention to it.
Panasonic is the brain behind their Smart City of the Future, the Future Advanced Cockpit of 2020 and the LUMIX GH4 camera, just to name a few! They are the master minds to all this future technology that one day will bring a new meaning to the world! For example, did you know, Panasonic has a “Future Mirror” that when someone is sitting in front of it, it actually will apply make up to the face so the consumer can see exactly how the make up/hair style will actually look? Um, awesome?! It will also tell you exactly what products it applied to your face and where the products can be purchased. I would love to try that.
Here is a link to the Future Mirror: http://panasonicces2016.com/
The Future Mirror was actually presented at Panasonic’s CES 2016 conference that took place in January. Hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs, big name celebrities and companies meet for a week to network and test out prototypes such as the Future Mirror!
With that in mind, I think Panasonic would be an amazing company to work for. They are headed in the right direction of where the future is taking us when it comes to technology. I believe their social media does have it strengths and weaknesses reflecting this. As I mentioned earlier, Panasonic hosts/runs the CES show every year. Their social posts during that week received a lot of engagements and the videos/tweets they posted were very interesting! However, their day-to-day content I find is a little weak. Their tweets and posts are not very interactive and don’t draw the consumer/followers in … in fact, if you don’t know anything about a “Smart Town”, I personally would never click the link. Example: https://twitter.com/panasonic/status/716180937046953984
This tweet is very vague and doesn’t really draw your attention with a simple bitly link.
If Panasonic gave a little more information or a more engaging tagline or GIF or video, I believe it would have more viewers interested in finding out more information. I personally thought this tweet was a little confusing and lacked information.
Here are a few tweets I thought were intriguing and they did a good job on:
1. Assistant Robots: interesting and all the rage right now! The tweet really draws you in! https://twitter.com/panasonic/status/714542682106933248
2. CES touch-less controls for the future car! This picture is awesome and if Panasonic focused more on imagery like this I think it would improve their social content: https://twitter.com/techmama/status/684869974427480064
I think Panasonic is a great company. It’s constantly in the loop of what’s up and coming and on top of what’s hot and new in technology, entertainment and the future. They need to expand their social media content everyone doesn’t just associate Panasonic with just “cameras” but to know them for their expertise in futuristic prototypes! If I worked there, I would like to make their brand stronger and maybe more creative with the content. Their CES tweets and videos were very interesting and I would focus on more types of tweets and posts such as those.
